The story of SleepAngel started when David Woolfson's daughter got an infection from an unclean pillow. Seeing her suffer motivated him to research cross-infection. He realised that pillows were the most critical part because they are just little mattresses for your head where you are most vulnerable. David Woolfson and dr Duncan Bain's paper "Pillows: The Forgotten Fomite" focused on the important role of soft surfaces and saw, that the pillow is an oft-overlooked link in a chain of cross-infection between patients and soft surfaces overall pose a potential threat to patients and caregiver. 

They concluded, that the introduction of a CE marked, validated barrier pillow, alongside an audit protocol which considers pillows and their serviceable condition, is a simple, inexpensive, and prudent measure.
