Continue ShoppingEx-Royal Marine Commando Stuart Morton is on a mission to be the first person to row solo from mainland Europe to USA. His Atlantic Row will raise funds for Rock 2 Recovery via the Royal Marines Charity, supporting ex-forces personnel affected by PTSD.
Estonian company SleepAngel has equipped Stu’s vessel with nano-tech SleepAngel bedding, that stays clean and dry due to unique filter technology.
Unique challenge for SleepAngel
Estonian company SleepAngel operates by the maxim “Where the Air is Pure” and as SleepAngel’s PneumaPure filter technology ensures that pillows, mattresses etc. stay clean (and dry!) on the inside, that means Stuart Morton or Atlantic Solo Stu will sleep, sit and row where the air is pure. That is important because clinical studies have demonstrated that bedding interiors become colonized by pathogens, bugs and allergens which, in turn, we are very likely to inhale. That causes impairment to sleep recovery and can have direct negative impact in the case of athletes or extreme endurance like Atlantic Solo Stu.
“Having spent time with Stuart at his preparation camp in Newcastle I have seen the importance of every detail and advantage, whether psychological or physical. We are genuinely proud to be part of it with SleepAngel and to support this important cause and fundraise”, says Sven Jürisoo, CEO and founder of SleepAngel
Solo Stu’s Challenge
Stuart Morton is on a mission to be the first person to row solo non-stop from mainland Europe (Lagos in Portugal) to USA (Miami). He is launching his bid in November (date depending on weather) and aims to row average 18 hours and 75 miles a day with an estimated arrival in Miami in three months.
The journey is almost 4500 miles and he has taken 12 months to prepare himself for his challenge.
For a good cause – Rock 2 Recovery
While he is aiming to secure two world titles – fastest solo row from mainland Europe to mainland North America and first ever solo row – his is also doing it for a good cause.
“The reason I’m doing the Atlantic Row is to dispel the myth that some former service personnel who suffer with mental health issues may be broken or mentally weak just because we have been through incredibly high pressured environments when at war and on operations,” says Stu Morton, “I have had my own mental health issues in the past and I want to show that it is still possible to achieve extraordinary things. This will hopefully help to dispel the stigma attached to mental health and also inspire others who may be struggling themselves.”
Documentary “The Rower”, Genesius Pictures
To document this unique challenge, Genesius Pictures in cooperation with the Messy Hands Productions (UK) is shooting a feature documentary The Rower to track Stuart Motrons attempt to row solo non-stop from Europe to North America. Documentary is directed by Kate Blewett (has won two news and documentary Emmys in 2002 for The Carper Slaves: Stolen Children Of India).
